Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology Management

Engineering Technology students at Greenville Tech now have an option to pursue a 4-year bachelor of science degree in a seamless articulation agreement with USC Upstate!  Graduates from any of the Engineering Technology programs at GTC are invited to add a third & fourth year at USC Upstate in order to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology Management.  Third & fourth year courses will be taught at the USC Upstate campus in Spartanburg and at the McAlister Square facility in Greenville.  Read below for more details!

What is the degree and what can I do with it?

The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology Management (ETM) provides technical college graduates with additional technical content and an understanding of operations and project management, quality systems, management in a changing environment, decision making, and human resources management techniques that apply to production, research and service organizations. The ETM program builds upon the specialized engineering technology training offered by South Carolina Technical Colleges.  Graduates of our Engineering Technology Management program work in a wide variety of roles such as Surveyor, Remediation Design Technologist, Quality Control Supervisor, Civil Design Technologist, Manufacturing Technologist, Engineering Technician, Manufacturing Supervisor, Project Manager, and Project Site Technician. The ETM program provides a theoretical foundation for the practical education received in the first two years of technical college.  Courses include content in project management, contract management, engineering cost analysis, systems decision-making, computer-integrated manufacturing, quantitative techniques, communication skills (including international and intercultural understanding), budget development, quality assurance, and team building. By offering a combination of specialist and generalist knowledge and skills, the ETM degree provides you with unmatched credentials in the technical workplace.

Who is the degree designed for?

This degree program is designed for both working adults and traditional students.  Working adults, who possess excellent technical training and knowledge, but not a bachelor's degree, may find career advancement options limited.  For the working adult, our evening ETM courses and laboratories, available now, are scheduled to allow convenient degree completion options.  High school students about to graduate may prefer our more traditional daytime format, scheduled to begin in 2008.  With the junior and senior-level ETM daytime courses scheduled to begin at Upstate in 2008, now is the time to enroll in the appropriate technical college program!

Where do I take my courses?

The majority of lower division courses (100 and 200-level) are completed at a Technical College as part of an Associate's degree in an Engineering Technology area.  Our technical college partners are listed below.  After earning an Associate degree in an approved engineering technology area, students complete two additional years of education through USC Upstate to earn a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology Management .  Please note this 2+2 baccalaureate degree requires an Associate Degree in an approved engineering technology area prior to full entry into the program, although some coursework for the degree may be taken at USC Upstate prior to completion of the Associate Degree. Courses are currently being offered in the Greenville-Spartanburg area. In the near future, ETM courses will be offered in a wider diversity of formats to accommodate student needs (evening, daytime, internet, weekends, etc.).

Which associate degree in technology do I need to enter the ETM program?

Individuals completing, or near completion of, an associate degree in one of the following areas meet entry requirements for USC Upstate's ETM program: architectural engineering technology, construction engineering technology, engineering graphics technology, geomatics technology (surveying), electrical or electronics engineering technology, computer electronics technology, mechanical engineering technology, or civil engineering technology.

Where do I enroll in the program?

USC Upstate has partnered with five outstanding SC Technical Colleges (see below).  Each partner institution has specific programs designed  to seamlessly transfer into the USC Upstate ETM program.  In effect, when you enroll in one of our partner institutions below, you HAVE entered the ETM program.  You will, as a student bound for the USC Upstate Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology Management program, have access to both a technical college and USC Upstate advisor!  Your advisors will guide you at every step of the way to help you successfully complete your program of study.  For additional information on the specific technical program and Technical College partner that interests you, please click on the links below!  At Greenville Tech, your main contacts are Mike Carey ( EGT Dept. ) and Sid Shrum ( Dean’s Office ).  If you already have an associate degree or attend another technical institution, please contact  Richard LeBoeuf, Ph.D., who is the Program Coordinator for the BSETM at USC Upstate for a personal evaluation of your academic options.
