Cooperative Education (Co-Op)
What is Cooperative Education?
Cooperative Education ( Co-Op ) allows you to take what you're learning in your major and apply it on the job. Through this earn-as-you-learn initiative, you're placed in a job related to your field of study, earning a wage and college credit at the same time.
How is a Technical Scholarship different?
Technical Scholarship employers also sponsor you by paying for your tuition and books. These employers often begin sponsoring you as soon as you enroll in classes. The company may request that you take particular courses that will be beneficial to you in your career with the company.
What's in it for me?
- Co-Op is a great way to get your foot in the door, prove yourself to an employer, and earn practical, hands-on work experience while you're still in school.
- It makes what you're learning in class more relevant and allows you to fine tune your career goals.
- Studies show that based on your Co-Op experience, you may command a higher starting salary when you graduate.
- Many Co-Op students go straight to work for sponsoring companies.
- You should also be able to advance more quickly than someone who leaves college without real-world experience.
How does it work?
- The Co-Op coordinator at Greenville Tech work with local companies to line up paid positions for qualified students.
- You'll receive help in preparing your resume and sharpening your interview skills.
- Once you're on the job, the college is committed to making sure that both you and the employer benefit from the experience.
- As you participate in the program, you'll meet with the coordinator regularly to monitor your progress and work through any problems.
How can I get involved?
Pick up an application from the Information Center on campus, or ask for an application in the counselor's office of your academic division. You'll also need to enroll in CWE-101 ( Employability Skills).
With Co-Op, you can:
- Test career choices.
- Fine tune career goals.

- Earn a competitive salary.
- Get your foot in the door of a well-known company.
